Trilogy Diamond Rings – Polished Diamonds
Filed Under General · Tagged:
Diamond Rings that have 3 diamonds are often called trilogy diamond rings. These diamond rings often have diamonds or precious gemstones like ruby, emerald or saphire in the ring setting. Trilogy Diamond Rings often refer to ‘past, present and future’ and are often offered as a gift for a wedding anniversary. Some people use a trilogy diamond ring as a wedding ring and some use it as a Diamond Engagement Ring. What ever you want the Trilogy Diamond Ring to represent they offer a tremendous sparkle with three brilliant gem stones scintillating in different directions. Polished Diamonds use Auto CAD to design trilogy diamond rings and we invite you to ask any questions and create a custom Trilogy Diamond Ring.

Palladium, Gold, Platinum – Diamond Rings
Filed Under General · Tagged: diamond rings, Gold Rings, palladium Rings, Platinum Rings, Ring Metals
Diamond Rings can be manufactured in a variety of metals and it can be difficult working out which best suits your diamond engagement ring. The team at Polished Diamonds recommends the following to help your decision:
Firstly look at other forms of Jewellery that the lady wears to determine between white and yellow metals. If she has a yellow gold watch and bangle then best go for a yellow gold diamond ring. If she has a silver or white gold watch and bangle then look at the white based metals.
There is really only one yellow metal for jewellery so if you are going for this option it is easy. 18kt Yellow Gold is a common mix in UK, Australia and New Zealand whereas USA prefer 14kt Gold. There is little difference other than the amount of gold that is used – the colour is very slight. 18kt uses 3/4 pure gold and alloys 1/4 – remembering 24kt Gold engagement rings are 100% pure. Yellow gold suits olive skin tones or a tanned complexion, it looks rich and is easy to work with on the jewellery bench.
If you decide to select a white metal for your diamond ring then you need to consider different strengths, prices and metal types. The best white metal to make an engagement ring from is Platinum which is 95% pure. Platinum is heavier which makes it denser and more durable than other metals. Platinum being 95% pure is also hypoallergenic and does not need plating as it is naturally white. Jewelers find it difficult to work with because of it’s durability and some may point you away from it to satisfy their own manufacturing goals – but it is the best. Platinum also comes with a higher price tag and we suggest that if you are spending a small amount on the diamond you may elect for white gold or Palladium so you can increase the diamond budget. If you have an expensive diamond then Platinum is the only way to go.
White Gold is a mixture of metals and always startes out as Yellow Gold (the natural color). White Gold is alloyed to white based metals like zinc, palladium and sometime splatinum to turn it into a grey color which is then Rhodium plated to give it a mirror like white finish. White Gold is good value but requires the Rhodium treatment every 2-3 years to look its best. We recommend white gold if your budget is tight.
Palladium is a Platinum group metal and is naturally white so does not require Rhodium treatments. Palladium is slightly softer than Platinum and a shade below White Gold although still very strong for jewelery. Tension set designs and delicate filigree is best made in Platinum but there is a genuine place for palladium and it is very well priced. Palladium is my choice of metal after Platinum as it is 95% pure and naturally white.
When selecting a Diamond Ring speak to the jeweler and discuss maintenence, durability and your budget – if you would like further information contact a Polished Diamonds agent in your area.

Who Chooses The Diamond Engagement Ring?
Buying Diamond Rings can be a difficult decision. Sometimes that decision is shared between the lady and the guy and sometimes he is on his own. Polished Diamonds offer a unique loose diamond presentation box so guys can propose with their Diamond and the lady can then design the diamond ring. This works because Polished DiamondsLtd use CAD (Computer Aided Design) so ladies can see how the diamond will look in the design they select before it is manufactured. The process makes sense because the Guy gets to surprise the lady in the traditional way by selecting a loose diamond and she get the Diamond Ring of her dreams – because she designs it. Some statistics are below that show the involvement when selecting a diamond ring.
The Lady picked it herself……15%
My fiancee and I selected it together……26%

I gave indirect hints to my fiance……….15%

The Girdle of a Polished Diamond
Filed Under General · Tagged: diamond rings, diamonds, Girdle of a Diamond
Buying a Diamond Ring is important and it pays to get a Diamond that really sparkles. Have you ever wonder what the words “diamond girdle” means, when you see it mentioned on a GIA diamond certificate or grading report?Well, the girdle is exactly what it implies (;-), the outer most circumference or rim of a diamond. Some diamond girdles are polished, which is where the diamond cutter actually creates facets around the girdle. Other Girdles, are left in their natural, or unpolished state, which appears grayish and lack the sparkle. Girdles come in different sizes, Thin – Medium – Thick as well as extreme sub-measurements of these like extremely thin and extremely thick. An extremely thick girdle is often applied to maintain carat weight and push the diamond into a key price bracket such as 1.00 carat. If this same diamond was cut to ideal proportions it would maybe become a 0.95 carat. The thick girdles therefore influence the depth percentage of a diamond. A very thin Girdle can be brittle and proce to chipping. We therefore recommend a Girdle that is thin to medium. For further information about Girdles and how to pick the perfect diamond visit our website at www.polisheddiamonds.us or view our selection of loose diamonds. Fluorescence in Diamonds – Polished Diamonds
Filed Under General · Tagged:
If a diamond has fluorescence in it, than you will be able to see it inside the diamond when the diamond is exposed to Ultraviolent Light (UV Light). The sun also emits some UV Light. A fluorescent diamond exposed to UV Light will emit a glow, this glow can appear in the form of a blue glow or it might also be a yellowish glow, although it is rare there have been diamonds which have a red glow as well.
Keep in mind that there is a difference between a diamond which is cloudy and a diamond that is fluorescent. A diamond which appears cloudy may be due to its clarity, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that the diamond is fluorescent. There are many fluorescent diamonds which are absolutely transparent in appearance. Diamond that have Extreme and Strong fluorescence may impact on clarity and should be checked for the face up beauty of the stone.
A diamond which emits a yellowish glow will devalue that particular diamond’s value, for some lower color grade diamonds having some fluorescence may add to its value often making it appear more colorless, the diamond will appear whiter when it is worn outside particularly where there is a lot of sunlight. The general rule of thumb when appraising a fluorescent diamond is that it will negatively impact the price of the diamond. Since some diamonds with fluorescent attributes can make the diamond appear more colorless, the best way to judge the diamond’s color is to look at the diamond under a filtered lighting source, removing all remnants of UV Light will help you see the diamond for its true color.
Don’t let a sales rep trick you into paying more for a fluorescent diamond, they may try to pass off a higher quality colour, they will speak about the lovely glow that the diamond emits and how much whiter the diamond is, but the truth is that the diamond has a little faint yellow in it. Remember, you will be wearing the diamond in all sorts of environments and not all of them will have UV Lighting, so although a diamond which has fluorescence is not a bad diamond, only purchase the diamond if you are satisfied with the diamond after inspecting it under normal lighting conditions, and leave the fancy UV Lighting for cocktail parties. Buying a Diamond Engagement Ring
Filed Under General · Tagged: Diamond Engagement Rings
Buying a Diamond Engagement Ring is an emotional, financial and difficult decision to make. Decide your budget and how much to spend. I decided an amount and thought it was acceptable so just went for it. Many people use the 2 months wages rule to define a budget to spend. Once you have the budget you need to ask your self is this going to be a surprise or shall we go shopping together.
Some guys purchase from Polished Diamonds a loose diamond for the engagement presentation and then allow the lady to design the ring. This works great because you can get engaged traditionally but she can design her ultimate ring that she’ll wear forever – perfect. If you have snooped around and know the design and her finger size then Polished Diamonds can use sophisticated CAD-CAM modelling software to show how the ring will look with the actual diamond size and to her finger size. This allows you to confirm the design or make changes.
Other things to consider when buying a polished diamond is the shape, certificate, carat weight, price, colour, clarity, cut or symmetry and the supplier. Diamonds come in many shapes and she may have a favorite so try to get this information from her friends and family or by dropping the odd hint. If you get this wrong then Polished Diamonds offer a 7 day return window so if a Princess cut is not desired then simply return it and go for a Round brilliant or something else. See our guide on Diamond Education earlier in this Blog as it has great information on how to choose a diamond.
You also need to consider the metal you will use in making the ring. If Yellow Gold is going to be used then a high colour G-H or lower I-J is fine because yellow reflection will come from the metal anyway. If Platinum, Palladium or White Gold is used go for diamond colour D-E-F in the top grades and G-H in the lower. The lower colours are still very nice and will enable a larger diamond to be used. Some ladies like size over quality.
For tips and useful information call your nearest Polished Diamonds store and ask for advice – we will gladly assist and tend to your requests. Polished Diamonds are a trusted Diamond Jeweler – for a life time of happiness.

Platinum Rings or White Gold Rings
Filed Under General · Tagged: Platinum Rings, White Gold Rings
Diamond rings are important items as they literally hold the diamond in place and need to be secure, comfortable and look good. There are many metals available to manufacture a diamond engagement ring - let’s look at some basics:
Platinum is a very hard and dense metal which makes it very durable and secure. Platinum diamond rings have a white metal almost chrome look about them which is very stylish and popular in the 1990’s and in through the new millennium. Platinum is hypoallergenic which means it is kind on sensitive fingers. Being a naturally white metal, Platinum requires little maintenance to keep looking good – whereas white gold is Rhodium Plated. Platinum is the best metal for a white /chrome looking diamond ring design although it is more expensive per gram.
White Gold is alloyed to white metals to turn the yellow gold into a grey material. White Gold is then Rhodium plated to give it a high mirror like finish. White Gold was developed as a substitute to Platinum and is not as strong and hard wearing. White Gold is popular as it is relatively inexpensive and mainstream so consumers are confident to make the purchase. White Gold in the US is often 14kt although we at Polished Diamonds use 18kt as we like to give more luxury.
Palladium is also another metal to consider using. Palladium come from the Platinum group of metals and shares the purity and whiteness of Platinum. It is light weight which is good for chunky engagement rings that may weigh a considerable amount. Palladium is well price and is considered better than white gold but not as good as platinum.
